You don't need a lab test every day to know how healthy you are. You just need a mirror and an understanding of
Jihva Pariksha (Tongue Diagnosis).
The tongue is the beginning of the digestive tract, and its surface is a topographic map of the internal organs. The back represents the colon, the middle represents the stomach and spleen, and the tip represents the heart and lungs.
How to Read Your Tongue
Check your tongue first thing in the morning, in natural light, before brushing or drinking water.
The Healthy Tongue:
Pink, clear, moist, with no coating, cracks, or scalloped edges.
1. The Coated Tongue (Ama)
If your tongue has a thick white, yellow, or grayish coating, it means your digestive fire (Agni) failed to process yesterday's food. The coating is *Ama* (toxic metabolic sludge).
*
The Fix: Drink hot ginger water. Do not eat a heavy breakfast. Wait for true hunger to return.
2. Scalloped Edges (Teeth Marks)
If the sides of your tongue look wavy, like pie crust, it indicates malabsorption. Your body is taking in food but failing to absorb the nutrients, often due to chronic Vata imbalance, anxiety, or spleen weakness.
*
The Fix: Cook your food thoroughly. Eat warm stews and kitchari. Avoid cold salads and iced drinks completely.
3. The Red Tip (Pitta)
A bright red tip or red raised dots covering the tongue indicates excessive heat, high Pitta, emotional stress, or hyperacidity in the stomach.
*
The Fix: Drink coriander water. Eat cooling foods like cucumber and sweet fruits. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and spicy food.
4. The Cracked Tongue (Vata)
Deep cracks running down the center or sides of the tongue indicate chronic dryness and Vata aggravation in the colon.
*
The Fix: Increase healthy fats immediately. Take a teaspoon of ghee daily and eat warm, dense, oily foods to rebuild tissue hydration.
Try This Today
Identify your current tongue state. Buy a copper tongue scraper (U-shaped) and scrape gently from back to front 7 times every morning to physically remove the toxic coating before it is reabsorbed.
