Ayurveda describes three subtle, master energies that govern the entire body and mind. They are the refined essences of the three Doshas:
- Prana is the subtle essence of Vata.
- Ojas is the subtle essence of Kapha.
- Tejas is the subtle essence of Pitta.
Understanding Tejas
Tejas is the fire of intelligence. It is the cellular spark that governs transformation, metabolism, and understanding.
If you meet someone with incredibly bright, piercing eyes, a radiant golden complexion, and a sharp, brilliant intellect that understands concepts instantly, you are witnessing high Tejas.
In the physical body, Tejas is responsible for:
- The luster and glow of the skin.
- The sparkle in the eyes.
- The body's cellular intelligence (knowing which cells are healthy and which are pathogens).
The Danger of High Tejas
In our hyper-competitive, caffeine-fueled modern world, many people "push" their Tejas to the limit to achieve success. They work 80-hour weeks, drink aggressive amounts of coffee, and operate on anger and ambition.
When Tejas burns too hot, it literally incinerates Ojas (your deep immunity and biological reserves). This is the exact Ayurvedic mechanism of what we call "Burnout." The person achieves brilliant success, but their immune system collapses, their hair thins, and they develop autoimmune issues. The fire burned the house down.
Try This Today: To balance high Tejas, you must feed the fire with heavy, cooling substances so it doesn't burn the body's tissues. Ghee is the ultimate medicine for this. Consuming a small amount of warm ghee cools the harshness of the fire while maintaining its brilliance.
